The Winter School "Ethics and Neuroscience is organized by the BCCN Berlin/ICCN and the Berlin School of Mind and Brain of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The event is tailored for MSc students and PhD candidates, but covers a range of topics of potential interest to other researchers, reflecting on the ethical and societal consequences of modern neuroscience.

Theoretical foundations, as well as practical and ethical aspects are addressed. Participants will benefit from a combination of lectures with group work and discussions, where they will put the learned content into practice.

Keynote lecture on 19 February, 17.30: "The Ethics of AI-chemy - When Science meets Hype" by Prof. Dr. Oliver Brock (Excellence Cluster Science of Intelligence,Technische Universität Berlin)

On Tuesday, 18 February, the winter school offers two parallel tracks: The Philosophical Track focuses on theoretical aspects, metaethics and moral responsibility. The Empirical Track offers theoretical foundations as well as a number of practical ethical aspects in neuroscience, such as deep brain stimulation, brain death, artificial intelligence, and data protection.

Venues: The lectures are hosted in different lecture halls of the Campus Nord of the Humboldt-Universität and Charité Medical School (access from Philippstraße 13, 10115 Berlin or from Luisenstraße 56, 10117 Berlin). The first lecture on Monday will take place at Philippstraße 13 Haus 4, lecture hall 4 (Hörsaal/Lecture Hall 4) on the campus.
