Neuro-philosophical workshop in Venice (San Servolo)

17-21 April 2013. M&B members only! Deadline: 20 February

After April 2011, in April 2013 we will hold our second neuro-philosophical workshop in San Servolo from 17 (arrival) till 21 April (departure).
This gives us 2 or 2,5 workshop days and enough extra time for social activities, to see Venice, talk ...
Again, this will be a joint meeing with our colleagues from the interdisciplinary graduate school Systemic Neurosciences from Munich University, who are mainly biologists, neuroscientists, and philosophers:

Michael Pauen, Henrik Walter and Ellen Fridland will head the M&B group from Berlin.

It is open to all students and faculty members, but participation from Munich or Berlin is limited to 8 doctoral students, 3 faculty respectively in addition to the respective directors.

Terms and conditions

STUDENTS

For students to take part, they will have to:

(1) (1) Read the paper “Why do humans reason? Arguments for an argumentative theory”. (To obtain the paper, please contact: mb-office@hu-berlin.de)

The aim is that everybody has the same knowledge base which will make discussions more lively and fruitful.)

(2) Register in the Doodle and apply with a short abstract.

(3) Prepare a talk which they will present during the workshop in which you consider (some of) the paper's main arguments in relation to your own research (max 20 mins talk, 1 hour for discussion).

Please note: Should there be more than 8 applications from doctoral students, we will draw lots.

FACULTY

For faculty to take part, they will have to:

(1) Read the paper “Why do humans reason? Arguments for an argumentative theory”. (To obtain the paper, please contact: mb-office@hu-berlin.de)

(2) Register in the Doodle.

(3) Be prepared to discuss 18 talks in which students will present the paper’s main arguments in relation to their own research.

M&B will cover the cost for travelling/transport to/in
Venice/San Servolo and accommodation.
Participants will have to pay for their own lunches and dinners.
