Dementia Prevention by Stroke Prevention

Satellite to World Health Summit Meeting in Berlin

Stroke and dementia are among the leading causes of disability and impairment of quality of life in old age. Vascular diseases are the second most common cause of dementia after Alzheimer's disease, and often contribute to the development of primary neurodegenerative dementias. While therapeutic breakthroughs in the neurodegenerative causes of dementia are still pending, improvements in vascular prevention and stroke treatment offer new and effective approaches to the prevention of dementia. Recent data show, for instance, that consistent anticoagulation in patients with atrial fibrillation can almost halve the risk of dementia in this patient population. Current insights into the epidemiology and vascular mechanisms of dementias, high-risk populations, and causal therapies are the subject of lively discussion and will be discussed with leading international experts alongside new diagnostic criteria during a one-day scientific symposium on the margins of the World Health Summit.

The event has been certified by the Berlin Chamber of Physicians (Ärztekammer Berlin) with 7 CME points.

We look forward to meeting you in October.
